I think even though Im getting older, Wyoming is sounding more my kind of place especially after hearing this! Another thing that gets in my crawl, is these liberal pukes saying "Your shaming me" no matter what ya say, if it aint there school of thought or if ya dont beat to their tune, that your shaming them. Truth is Wyoming requires a sort of practical conservatism that sometimes translates to practical progressivism. We’re The Equality State. We are right now in a very sophisticated transition in our expertise in the Energy Sector. Wyomingites have never feared the future but the coal-based economy is in a difficult transition. If you are trying to come home to Wyoming, you may be shocked at the “watch what you say” attitude that is killing traditional Wyoming. The wind keeps the riff-raff out. We are going to make the transition to electricity production and being a powerful net exporter of electricity, we love the wild places and we have an incredibly inspired independent music scene and environmentalists are sincere here. Wages are low, housing’s a problem, the wind, the “brown”. That’s all true. There are also high paying jobs and people being sent here, so if you are in that kind of situation, you’ll probably be happy. Git yerself woke up, and git’er dun!

Wyoming sounds like my kind of state. Do you guys have an income tax there? How hard is it to get some land there? If I could get a well drilled for water, and some wood for a stove. I would be coming as a refugee not as a missionary.

Breaks my heart man, I feel like I missed my chance. Been wanting to move off the east coast out to wyoming for years. The land, the forests, it all seemed like home. Now it seems like an even bigger pipe dream than before.

Wyoming is absolutely amazing. Except for the climate. The climate is overall absolutely horrible. Really really bad.

I love Wyoming just bought a place in Evanston. I sold one of my condos in OC in SoCal. 1bedroom w/loft 1kSF. Bought a 5 bed almost 5k SF house in Wyoming and still had over 250k left over from the sale of the condo. Wyoming is dirt cheap. And it’s close to SLC so if I need the city it’s right there. It could take me over an hour to get from where I am in south coast OC to the northern area of OC. So no biggy. Love the outdoors. Love my weapons, hiking, and outdoors. Perfect retirement home and until that time comes it’s just a great vacation house.

Maybe you should have moved to say a City in Wyoming to get used to Wyoming, first. In 1974, My family, myself, sister, mom and dad, moved to Wyoming from Maryland. And it was a bit of a shock. Plus we lived about 8 miles out of town. But we adapted. And now I cant see myself living any where else. So if you want to move to Wyoming, and your from a city, move to a city. And then see how you like it, and then maybe buy some land.

I have lived here since I was 11. My kids were all born here. I drive a soft top 1997 Jeep wrangler year round and I have been a certified wildland firefighter and sawyer. I am currently enrolled in college again and focusing on photography and communications. If you have the mindset, you can make whatever you want of yourself here. You aren't going to be comfortable, but if you can hack it and learn to go with the flow, you'll be okay.

I can't stand Wyoming; I lived in Rawlings while working a job there and if I ever decided to live in this state it would have to be northern Wyoming. Nothing against the people, it was just cold and windy and lack of anything much to do made me want to never go back.

Give it a few more years. There are bouts of more rain...yes, the wind is annoying at times but the peace and privacy you can attain from states like Wyoming, Mt, and the Dakotas is worth it. So you are a newcomer telling the newcomers..LOL. My advice is go talk to the old people. They are the ones who know about the area. Five years in the boonies is only an introduction ! Minus -77 is pretty rare, except on the top of the mountain ranges.

Tea your out working in south central Wyoming. Wind is blowing, sand is blowing around. In the 1st or 2nd hour of being out in it you lick your lips and next thing you know you have sand in your mouth. Crunch crunch. You get like mascara around your eyes because of the moisture and in your nostrils, around your mouth. Great place, just have to get used to it. Very dry, ponch your nose and it might bleed a little. I found carmex there, for your lips to keep them from.cracking. Great place, my favorite state besides Texas.

I have heard there's coming some large resort near Pinedale. Some guy from Georgia gonna build himself a resort to bring in more people...at least during summer and part of winter. I worry that could change things. All it takes is someone with enough money and determination (and can bring some sort of industry) and watch the people pour in.

Have any opinions on buying claims? I would use it to camp, leisure panning (not a serious prospector), shoot guns and fish.

I played high school football in Chicago and the 2 offensive tackles both got D1 scholarships to Wyoming and they both left after the 1st year. They both ended up in same conference but not same school again, in KY/OH area (Incl Boling Green) and each were on a championship team in, obviously, different years. But they could not handle living in WY. D1 NCAA didn’t matter.

Looking to move to WY or SD for retirement and tax purposes and recreation . Northern Nebr farm kid . Not concerned about cold or snow but really concerned about wind and the dry climate. Actually My only two concerns.. Wind pisses me off here in Nebr so I’m real hesitant.
